The Indian Navy has released its recruitment notification for the Agniveer (Apprentice) scheme, opening applications for candidates who have completed a three-year diploma after Class 10 in a range of engineering trades. The window covers two upcoming batches, designated 01/2027 and 02/2027, with online applications open through the official portal, joinindiannavy.gov.in, until June 29.
To qualify, candidates need a minimum of 50 percent aggregate marks in their Class 10 board examination and a further 50 percent aggregate in a three-year diploma from an AICTE-recognised polytechnic. The eligible diploma streams span a wide band of engineering disciplines, including marine engineering, mechanical engineering, production engineering, automobile engineering, refrigeration and air conditioning, power plant engineering, mechatronics, metallurgy, instrumentation, and various electrical and electronics specialisations. The roles are open only to unmarried male candidates, with age eligibility windows that differ slightly between the two batches.
Selection runs through a multi-stage process that includes the Indian Navy Entrance Test, a physical fitness test, a written examination, a medical examination and a final merit list, mirroring the broader Agniveer framework the armed forces introduced in 2022 to bring in technically trained personnel on fixed-term service. Selected apprentices draw a monthly stipend in the Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 range during their training and service period, with access to the Seva Nidhi corpus fund, medical coverage and insurance benefits.
The apprentice diploma route has become one of the more closely watched entry points for technically qualified school leavers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where polytechnic enrolment is high and government and defence postings remain a sought-after career path. With the application window open for only a few weeks, candidates from this year's diploma-passing batches will need to move quickly to register and assemble the required documentation before the June 29 deadline.
