The Indian Navy has opened online applications for its Agniveer (Apprentice) recruitment drive, covering the 01/2027 and 02/2027 training batches, giving diploma holders in engineering trades a defined route into the armed forces outside the more commonly known soldier and officer tracks. Applications opened on June 5 and close on June 29, leaving a narrow window for eligible candidates across Andhra Pradesh and the rest of the country to apply through the official portal, joinindiannavy.gov.in.
The scheme targets unmarried male candidates who have cleared the 10th standard with at least 50 percent aggregate marks and gone on to complete a three-year diploma from an AICTE-recognised polytechnic, also with a minimum 50 percent aggregate. The eligible diploma streams span a wide band of engineering disciplines, including marine, mechanical, production, automobile, electrical, electronics, instrumentation, mechatronics and metallurgy, reflecting the range of technical trades the Navy relies on to maintain its ships and shore establishments. Age limits differ slightly by batch: candidates for the 01/2027 batch must have been born between December 1, 2004 and May 31, 2009, while those applying for 02/2027 need to fall between May 1, 2005 and October 31, 2009.
Selection runs through multiple stages rather than a single test: candidates first sit the Indian Navy Entrance Test, followed by a physical fitness test, a written examination, a medical examination and finally placement on a merit list. The application fee is set at 550 rupees plus 18 percent GST. Selected apprentices draw a monthly stipend in the 30,000 to 40,000 rupee range during training, alongside medical coverage, insurance and access to the Seva Nidhi benefit scheme that several other Agniveer tracks also offer.
For diploma holders in Andhra Pradesh's polytechnic system, many of whom compete for a limited number of campus placements each year, a structured entry route into the Navy's technical cadre offers an alternative that combines a steady stipend with long-term career options in a skilled trade. Education counsellors note that candidates should begin gathering certificates and Aadhaar-linked documentation well before the June 29 deadline, since verification and document mismatches are a common reason applications get held up in the final days of any government recruitment window.
