Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has been awarded a contract worth Rs 2,977 crore by NMDC Limited to set up a buffer stockpile and blending yard with a 10-million-tonne annual handling capacity at Visakhapatnam. The facility is intended to strengthen NMDC's logistics and material-handling capabilities at the port city.
Under the contract, RVNL will build the infrastructure needed to stockpile and blend iron ore before onward dispatch, a step expected to improve supply-chain efficiency for NMDC's operations in the region. The project is scheduled to be completed within 42 months of the award.
The deal adds to a string of large infrastructure contracts won by RVNL, a public-sector rail infrastructure company, in recent years as it has diversified beyond pure rail projects into broader logistics and industrial infrastructure work.
For Visakhapatnam, the project is expected to support the city's role as a major eastern coast logistics and trade hub, complementing other ongoing port and connectivity upgrades in the area.
